So first the 8800GT can't fit in either the PCI or the PCI-E slot because it's obscured by other menial pieces, and also because putting it in the PCI slot would involve putting it in backwards (wtf, I know), I ended up buying

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144151

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128050

And, hell, when I figured I was buying that, I also bought

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115030

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141307

And I don't want to fucking see Newegg again for the next three years.

Yeah, I was under the impression since my current mobo supported an integrated nVidia chip and an AMD proc that there would be no prob. It's been fixed and I've been educated on that bit.

Quote:

...What? I was trying to find a mobo that supported the 8800GT's massive size, and when I realized that the current case I have here is too small for the mobo, I was looking for a case, and when I found an Apevia one that support their Apevia PSU, which I also have, I decided to buy a case. The proc and the stick of RAM were impulse buys and I figured if I was upgrading everything else I might as well upgrade that too (current system has a 64 x2 4400 and 2GB of RAM).

So here's what I switched for the AMD proc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115030

Well the only thing I'm going to be leaving behind is my old case, my old mobo, my old proc, and my old card, and the only decent thing out of it all is the proc if you're not looking for anything for it to handle future-wise. The card is a sin, though, and I plan on recording the burning of it.

lewl

I was actually so pissed last night when trying to fit the 8800GT into my current rig that I ended up ripping off the back audio input because it was in the way. It was a bitch to rip off too. Took me about 20 minutes with a pair of pliers. Even then the card was then bumping into the RAM slots. It's just too fucking huge and my mobo/case setup is poorly designed in the department of opening space.

You do know that it won't work with a PCI slot, regardless of position...(doggy style and in the front...)

Do you want me to take a picture of the manual? I suggest nobody says further of, "NO THATS WRONG" unless they actually own the card.

Also, Jcup suggested I posted the damage I did to it.

You should be able to see where the audio bit I ripped out here:

A little better quality:

Another view point:

And another:

A little comparison there as my X1600XT is still slotted:

And the beast itself:

Here was the audio back output...or what was left of it:

I had to rip off the metal casings around it first before I got a hold on it. Afterwards I realized I had to unscrew the whole mobo if I really wanted to do that, so I ended up spending just 20 minutes of my morning ripping it off.

And there is kitty gnawing on the pieces of what is left.

D= I see why people asked me about my cable management when I reported the temps in my computer. Yikes! Looks like that PSU was planning on distributing its power through a much bigger case.

Oh jesus, I almost shat my pants when I saw that!
I just looked in the manual for mine, which is the same card as yours. Nowhere does it say that it's compatible with all slots. It does, however, show what all the slots look like, and tells you that PCI-E is the one you should put it in, since the card is labeled as PCI-E. Remember, just because it has a big green check by it, doesn't mean that it necessarily applies to your card! The manual is eVGA's universal manual that they package with every card they sell, regardless of slot type.

Far left: PCI
Far right: PCI-E X16

Note that the pin configurations are COMPLETELY different. AGP is similar in appearance to PCI, but has a difference of pin count, and a latch, as on PCI-E

I once saw a picture of a graphics card someone had cut so that it would fit into a particular slot type, thinking that the gold pins were some kind of cutting guide. It made me lol and cry at the same time. Seeing you rip out your rear audio does the same

I honestly had a hard time reading that without laughing my ass off. Please do post this manual. Did you read this manual afterwards? When things weren't working did you actually ask for help instead of SHANKING THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER WITH A SCREW DRIVER?!?!?

Generally when something doesn't fit you are not supposed to shove the thing into a slot until it "works". THAT IS NOT HOW YOU BUILD A COMPUTER. Electronics are delicate pieces of hardware and to be honest I will be amazed if that board actually works after you tore the audio out.

PCI Express
, PCI and AGP are COMPLETELY 100% ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY incompatible on an electrical and physical level. They use different amounts of voltage, they transmit data at different rates, for the love of god the slots are different sizes and are keyed, that should tell you first thing that something is wrong when you slam the card in and it doesn't go. If a key doesn't open the lock to your front door do you get an RPG and blow the living fuck out of the door? NO, if you are a normal human being you find the key that works for the lock. Breaking hardware does not fix the problem and while I may seem harsh here to be honest you should not be allowed to ever touch a piece of computer equipment until you can learn to actually figure out how things work instead of smashing them together like a chimpanzee with rocks.

Things are designed to work in a specific manner. If they don't go in the first time, either ask someone else or use google for the love of god.

And by the way, I'm pretty sure everyone here who has a modern system has a PCI Express slot. Don't tell US to read a manual when we have already done our homework.

It seems he only paid attention to the pretty pictures and bright green check marks :P

Who likes to think of themselves as completely knowledgeable when it comes to computers and that if you're not feeling overtly egotistical about an issue someone else isn't knowledgeable on that you're not contributing to the thread!

Oh, looks like everyone else.

Oh, looks like everyone else.
...Did you even read beyond the first paragraph of my god damn post?

LIKE I FUCKING SAID, they are
ELECTRICALLY INCOMPATIBLE.
As in,
ELECTRICALLY INCOMPATIBLE.
Repeat after me:
ELECTRICALLY INCOMPATIBLE.
Once again:
ELECTRICALLY INCOMPATIBLE.

Honestly, do I have to use a highlighter on my god damn posts from now on? Do I have to draw little pictures to help you make sense of it? Stick figure drawings of how to insert the card without bumping into a piece of metal that is facing the complete opposite direction?

Overly Egotistical? You're the one telling us to read a manual when you are the guy who just fucked up a motherboard and probably a brand spanking new 8800 GT. I wouldn't doubt you tried to get the first processor into the slot by hitting it with a hammer right?

"HURHURHUR, LOL THIS BULLET JUST HAPPENS TO FIT WHERE THAT FUSE WAS SUPPOSED TO GO IN MY CAR, IMMA USE IT INSTEAD "

Good luck, you're on your own from now on. If you weren't being such an egotistical chimpanzee maybe I would have given you more help, but obviously the guy who has been building PCs for several years now and using them for even longer is the one who is wrong, right? I mean, come on, how could I know anything, after all, I only BUILT my own computer, amirite?

You sound like Tweek. No, that isn't a good thing. The point of the issue is that this thread was never supposed to be here. As a matter of fact, the thread was posted in another help board to a specific group of members--ones that don't act like idiots or egotists. I put it there because I knew technotwats would swarm into this thread and go, "OMFG U DOIN IT WRONG OMFG LOOK U RIPPED IT OFF THE MOBO OMFG UR COMPUTER GONNA BLOW UP LOLOLO." So Doc ended up moving the thread, and after it was destroyed, I locked it with my last post up there, and then Doc reopened it.

No wonder this place is dog shit slow and nothing ever gets done. You have people in charge who shirk their responsibility because they have too much going on in their real lives, and then they give moderator status to the same people. Can't say much about Doc though, especially with this sort of garbage.
